Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important official said the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
